Lianne La Havas was born August 23, 1989, in south London. Her father’s family was Greek, her mother’s Jamaican. Growing up in London, La Havas’ first interest in music came from her family. Her mother would listen to artists such as Jill Scott and Mary J. Blige, while her father was a multi-instrumentalist who taught her the basics of how to play the guitar and the keyboard. She wrote her first song at the age of 11 but didn’t learn to play the guitar properly until she was 18 years old.

La Havas decided to launch her own career in music after performing as a backing vocalist for Paloma Faith and Rox. Subsequently signed to Warner Bros. Records, she is working on material for her upcoming debut album due early 2012.

La Havas’ latest EP ‘’Lost & Found’’ was released on October 21 on the Labour of Love label and features Willy Mason on the title track. In October 2011, Lianne released a live EP, Live From LA which was made available for free download on her website.

La Havas made her television debut on the October 21, 2011, broadcast of BBC Two’s Later… with Jools Holland, a program that also featured Wisconsin folk band Bon Iver.
